In India, Meta and Jio introduce WhatsApp grocery shopping.

According to the companies, customers in India will be able to explore the complete JioMart food inventory on WhatsApp, add things to a basket, and then pay for their purchases using the country's local rail system UPI without ever leaving the instant messaging app.

"We are eager to begin our collaboration with JioMart in India. People may now purchase groceries from JioMart directly in a chat, marking our first-ever end-to-end buying experience on WhatsApp.

Meta is a significant minority investor in Jio Platforms, the country’s largest telecom subscriber with over 421 million subscribers.

Jio additionally disclosed that it would spend $25 billion to launch 5G services in the nation in October.

WhatsApp received permission to make its UPI-powered payments service available to 100 million additional users in India, where it is used by approximately half a billion people each month.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, "enterprise messaging is an area with tremendous momentum and chat-based experiences like this will be the standard way people and businesses communicate in the years to come.
